Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  3. In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in red food coloring and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just mixed—avoid overmixing.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets and bake for about 10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  7. Cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack. Top with cream cheese frosting if desired.
