Ingredients
  

Okra
  • 1 pound fresh okra sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
Breading
  • 1 cup cornmeal for coating
  • 1 cup buttermilk for dipping
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika optional for extra flavor
Oil
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

Prepare the Okra
  1. Wash and slice the okra into 1/2 inch pieces.
Breading Process
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Dip each okra piece into the buttermilk, then coat with the cornmeal mixture.
Frying
  1. In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  2. Carefully add the breaded okra to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried okra and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve hot as a snack or side dish.
