Ingredients

Artisan Bread & Garlic Butter
  • 1 large loaf (16 oz) crusty artisan sourdough boule or round loaf
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp dried Italian oregano
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
Triple Cheese Filling & Serving
  • 2 cups (8 oz) shredded whole-milk mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup (4 oz) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • pinch flaky sea salt and fresh parsley for garnish
  • 1 cup warm marinara sauce, for dipping

Method

Step-by-Step Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the sourdough boule diagonally into 1-inch diamonds, cutting deep into the bread but keeping the bottom crust intact.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano, sea salt, and black pepper.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss together the shredded mozzarella, sharp cheddar, and grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Gently pry open the bread crevices with your fingers and use a pastry brush to coat the interior bread cuts generously with 3/4 of the garlic butter mixture.
  6. Generously stuff the cheese blend deep into every crevice and cut of the bread until bursting.
  7. Brush the remaining garlic butter evenly over the top crust. Wrap the loaf loosely in aluminum foil to enclose steam.
  8. Bake covered for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes until cheese is completely melted, bubbling, and the top crust is crispy and golden brown.
  9. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and extra chopped parsley. Serve piping hot with warm marinara dipping sauce.
