Ingredients
  

Chicken and Marinade
  • 1 whole chicken (about 4-5 lbs) cleaned and patted dry
  • 1 can beer lager or ale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat (about 350°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a rub.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin for more flavor.
  4. Open the can of beer and drink or pour out half of it. Place the can inside the chicken cavity.
  5. Carefully place the chicken upright on the grill using a chicken holder or directly on the grill grates.
Cooking
  1. Close the grill lid and cook the chicken for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  2. Rotate the chicken occasionally for even cooking.
  3. Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
